The new indexed cap rate applies from 1 January 2025 until 31 December 2025 for any new work commenced in that timeframe.

The new indexed cap rate for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) of $1,132 comes into effect on 1 January 2025.

It applies until 31 December 2025; it is important to note, however, that new cap amount only applies if an eligible child commences treatment during the two-year 2025-2026 calendar period.

For example, if a child first accessed benefits in 2024 the 2023-2024 cap of $1,095 applies, but if a child first accesses benefits in 2025 the 2025-2026 cap of $1,132 will apply.

It is worth noting that there has also been a change in the individual rebates.

Explore the CDBS

The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including exams, x-rays, fillings and root canals (it excludes orthodontic or cosmetic dental procedures), for children aged 0-17 years whose parents receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment.

Provided dentists are registered with the Dental Board of Australia and hold a Medicare provider number, they can provide services under the CDBS but before any treatment commences the eligibility of the child for the CDBS must be confirmed and the remaining amount of funds in their allocation must also be checked.
