As part of a commitment to expand accessible oral healthcare for all, the World Dental Federation (FDI) has released 16 fact sheets on fundamental oral health concepts.

Acknowledging that there is a shortage of dentists in many parts of the world, the FDI World Dental Federation, of which the ADA is an active member, has released a range of 16 oral healthcare fact sheets designed to equip the wider healthcare workforce with the basic oral health knowledge and skills.

The aim is to expand access to oral healthcare and to make it affordable for more people, in recognition of the fact that most oral diseases can be prevented through what FDI terms "straightforward, evidence-based interventions".

In their article about the release of the fact sheets, five of which have been release so far, FDI goes on to say:

“By engaging various Health Care Providers (HCPs) in the promotion of oral health, we can significantly expand access to oral care, especially for marginalized and underserved populations.”

Through educating HCPs on fundamental oral health concepts, it is hoped that this will lead to increased interpersonal collaboration between HCPs and dental professionals, and improved health and wellbeing of patients.
