The Australian Dental Association recently hosted an interactive virtual member forum to explore the findings of its Future of Dentistry Report. The report was developed with insights drawn directly from member experiences which will help guide the ADA’s advocacy priorities.
The forum brought together members from across the country to discuss key trends, challenges and opportunities shaping dentistry in Australia. The forum hosted by ADA Oral Health Promoter Dr Monica Farrelly, featured contributions from ADA President Dr Chris Sanzaro and the ADA’s General Manager of Policy, Advocacy and Communications, Jay Moran.
Speakers emphasised the importance of long-term, evidence-based planning Key themes included emerging technologies, future workforce skills and training, evolving clinical practice models, and changing patient expectations.
Members also explored how innovation, artificial intelligence and new models of care could support improved patient outcomes, greater efficiency and more integrated care, alongside opportunities for stronger sector partnerships.
There are significant challenges facing the profession the forum also acknowledged, including rising costs of care, workforce maldistribution, inequitable access to services, shifting consumer expectations and the environmental impact of dentistry.
The insights generated from the forum will inform the ADA’s ongoing policy, advocacy and member engagement initiatives. Over the coming months, the ADA will continue to advocate for these priority issues, supporting a sustainable and responsive dental profession that delivers safe, high-quality care for Australians now and into the future.
