Course OverviewEvaluate the process of ageing and difference between favourable and non-favourable ageing. Learn simple injection techniques for cosmetic procedures around the lips, cheeks, and chin.
Please note that it is a requirement for attendees enrolled in the Advanced Course to have completed either the basic Botulinum Toxin and Intraoral Dermal Fillers (BTX Basics) or the Diagnosis and Management of Temporomandibular Disorders. (TMD Course) before enrolling in the Advanced Course - is a pre-requisite for enrolment in this course and you will be asked to provide details of your previous course at time of registration. Completion of courses from interstate ADA branches are mutually recognized.
Expand on the knowledge obtained in the prerequisite course to include cosmetic procedures in the upper and middle facial regions using safe, evidence based and predictable methods
This course includes a practical, hands-on component in the form of clinical scenarios for treatment planning and demonstrations of all cosmetic procedures on silicone injectable manikins. Participants will have the opportunity to inject a filler-like gel into the silicone manikins to practise all cosmetic techniques of lips and cheek augmentation, as well as injecting a botulinum toxin-like solution to simulate anti-wrinkle injections in the frontal and peri-orbital areas.
DAY ONE: 8:20am – 4:30pm
Didactic lectures, followed by a quiz about head and neck anatomy, pitfalls and complications.
DAY TWO: 8:20am – 1:00pm
The practical application of the theoretical learnings from the first day. It will involve demonstrations of various injection techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to practice on silicone manikins that replicate the skin injections.
Learning Objectives:
• Deliver a descriptive overview of the effect of ageing on bone, fat pads, cutaneous ligaments, and skin
• Understand the classification of facial and skin types, anatomical lip zones, lip types, frontal lines, eyebrow shapes and wrinkle patterns
• Practice cosmetic botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections in the mouth, jaws and associated structures (simulation model).
• Recognise anatomical pitfalls and complications in the upper and middle facial regions.

Dr Mahmoud Bakr
Dr. Bakr is Director of Clinical Education (Dentistry) and Senior Lecturer in General Dental Practice at Griffith University’s School of Dentistry and Oral Health. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Medicine and Surgery from Cairo University in 2004, a Master’s degree in 2010, a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2014, and a PhD in 2019. An accredited examiner for the Australian Dental Council, he continues clinical practice at Griffith University Dental Clinics and has published more than 45 peer-reviewed journal articles, including research on the effects of Botulinum Toxin on oral tissues.
Dr Mohammed Meer
Dr. Meer has extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dental students across four of South Africa’s five dental schools. Before immigrating to Australia in 2007, he worked in private practice at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, Cape Town, and as a consultant in Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery at the University of the Western Cape. He completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2012 and is registered with AHPRA as a Specialist Oral Surgeon. His interests include facial trauma, implantology, extra-oral implants, and the therapeutic use of injectables in dental practice
