Private Practice Placements
Adelaide Dental School is re-implementing the Private Practice placements for final year dental students in 2024.
The placements are expected to be week-long and the students will be expected to attain a range of learning outcomes relevant to private dental practice, broadly outlined below:
- Patient communication and treatment planning at a private setting
- Leadership role of principal dentists and practice managers and their relationship with dental team members
- Infection control procedures and the roles of various members in the team and reporting in a private clinical setting
- The limits of individual clinical skills and scope of practice of different members of the dental team such as the dental hygienist and oral health therapist.
- Referrals to and from the practice and issuing of prescriptions and associated legal requirements.
- Patient follow up and recall
- Financial consent, including billing, insurance, and rebates.
- Practice management including administrative tasks, ordering supplies, and legal obligations to the employees.
The placements will be followed by assessments held by the School to allow the students to demonstrate attainment of the learning outcomes.
It will be much appreciated if you could kindly email your expressions of interest and any further questions to A/Prof Muhammed Yakin (muhammed.yakin@adelaide.edu.au) and the Adelaide Dental School Admin team (ads@adelaide.edu.au).
