Course Information
Periodontal care is a lifelong journey requiring support from the entire dental team. In this practical seminar, Dr Justin Darby explores periodontal disease management through three key phases: Identification, Management, and Monitoring. Designed for dentists, hygienists, nurses, and reception staff, the session provides practical clinical protocols and communication strategies to help teams identify at-risk patients, deliver effective treatment, and build long-term patient trust through Supportive Periodontal Care (SPC).Identification
Learn to recognise periodontal disease and peri-implant inflammation in everyday practice. Dr Darby will discuss key clinical signs including bleeding, mobility, and recession, and explain how to identify and flag at-risk patients across the whole team.
Management
Review contemporary approaches to periodontitis treatment, including communicating diagnoses clearly and motivating behaviour change. The session also covers assessing treatment outcomes, identifying ongoing inflammation, and recognising when further care is needed.
Supportive Periodontal Care (SPC)
Discover how to maintain long-term periodontal health through structured maintenance visits and early detection of disease recurrence. Emphasis will be placed on a whole-team approach to reinforcing oral hygiene, building patient trust, and encouraging ongoing attendance for SPC.
Dr Justin Darby is a Specialist Periodontist at Adelaide Periodontics and Implant Specialists with extensive experience in periodontal and implant therapy. After graduating with Honours from The University of Queensland, he served in the Royal Australian Air Force before completing specialist training in Periodontics in 2007.
