Practical strategies for managing periodontal disease in general practice - Mount Gambier

Course Information

Periodontal disease remains one of the most common yet under-optimised conditions in general dental practice. This lecture will break down the key principles of modern periodontal care into clear, practical strategies that can be immediately implemented chairside. Drawing on contemporary frameworks such as the European Federation of Periodontology guidelines, we will revisit the “why” behind core diagnostic tools—including probing depths and bleeding on probing—and how they directly inform risk assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. The session will focus on simplifying periodontal workflows, improving patient communication, and enhancing long-term outcomes, with selective integration of implant considerations where relevant.

Dr Henry Lee is a specialist periodontist who graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide. He has worked across both public and private sectors and completed his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontics at the University of Melbourne, where he received the Straumann Group Award for Academic Achievement. Dr Lee enjoys all aspects of periodontics and implant therapy and consults at Adelaide Periodontal and Implant Professionals.
